Heiltsuk Village  McLoughlin Bay, Bella Bella, BC

Volunteer Design Work

I was asked to design a series of cabins to house tourists visiting the Heiltsuk Village in Bella Bella, BC.  It is a unique and rugged location overlooking the inlet;  truly a place for visitors to absorb the culture and environment of the Heiltsuk People.  My design was inspired by the traditional longhouse while taking advantage of the ocean views.  A slight variation in the roof design allows a single bedroom bungalow to become a two bedroom loft.  Each cabin is distinguished by the Heiltsuk representation of their clans; Raven, Wolf, Whale and Eagle.
